Charles Eastman (1858-1930) Santee Sioux

A Dakotah Wicasta who was the only Indian trained as a physician to care for the victims at Wounded Knee in 1890.  He was an early writer of texts in English describing traditional tribal values and customs.  He died at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, not far from his Santee homelands.
